EQUITY IN GIRLS HOCKEY

Toronto Leaside Girls Hockey - Fairness in Girls Hockey...

Community Update
Fairness for Girls' Hockey

On December 4, 2009, Toronto City Council voted 36-2 in favour of a motion
that would ensure both girls and boys get their fair and equitable share of ice
time at city-owned arenas.

This decision comes, in large part, thanks to the overwhelming support the
TLGHA has received from our community – and hockey players everywhere.

Our female hockey players and parents showed their colours (Wildcats red!) at
Toronto City Council on December 1st – showing city politicians that girls' hockey
is a vibrant, growing sport that deserves support and encouragement.

Now, as a result of this decision, all eight management-run arena boards will be
required to show that they are giving recreational girls' and boys' ice programs a
proportionate share of ice time. The City of Toronto will now approve all ice allocation.

Many thanks again, for your ongoing support!

Equity Update - December 2, 2009
The Toronto Leaside Girls Hockey Association supports the
revised motion that was presented by councillor Janet Davis
at the Toronto City Council meeting Dec. 1, 2009.
